Meadowcourt Road
Lee Green in south-east London is undergoing significant change. Areas which were previously mixed-use are becoming predominantly residential, while a large area known as Lee Gate is being developed to provide a more appropriate mix of housing, retail, commercial and leisure facilities.
Meadowcourt Road is now largely residential, although a few small commercial buildings and garages have managed to hang on. These small-scale uses are no longer sustainable in the search for sites more suitable in meeting the demand for housing.
This small block of flats will have access from a communal courtyard facing the street. The site is located between a residential side road and a small river with buildings of different heights surrounding it. Our solution has been to design the development as two blocks, connected by a single centrally positioned staircase. Top floor flats within the roofs have been articulated to reduce the visual impact on neighbouring properties.
