Brockley Rise
We recently designed two new town houses and three flats over a shop in South East London.
The site sits on a prominent corner of a main road and a residential side road. The form of the development takes its cues from the rhythm and materials of the existing building and the existing houses in the adjacent street. This project presents an opportunity to make a positive contribution to a previously neglected junction of two streets and to make better use of an unloved garage site in a residential area, through the introduction of flats and houses.
Form, massing and materials were of primary concern with this project and several studies were carried out to determine a proposal that would address the corner as well as the established street, while creating rhythmic setbacks within the flat block and the two houses to address the pavement line and the building line.
